Hit Me Baby One More Time Exercise- Evaluation and Video

Overall activity

The aim of the video was to re-create 30 seconds of the famous 'Hit me baby one more time' by Britney Spears. The video, released on January 12th 1999, was given to us so that we could re-create our own version in our school. We would then edit this and upload this to blogger as a practice for our own music videos.

How did I find the editing?

At first, I found editing the music video very hard, as I have not had to sync any singing before in my short film. I also struggled to get all my clips in the right place. However after practicing around with the clips for a while, I managed to eventually get the hand of editing it. After I understood, editing became very easy and I put all my clips on different video lines, where I then adjusted all the clips in place to the music.
During editing I was constantly referring back to the original music video so that it looked as good as possible. Evenutally I lip-synced all the singing shots to the beat and the video was then created.

Did I struggle with anything during the editing?

There was struggles with the editing at first due to the fact that not all clips were filmed. There were a few shots that were not filmed on filming day which therefore made it difficult to edit exactly how the original was, which meant that some clips had to be lengthened or shortened to make up for the shots lost.

Overall did this help with my own project?
Yes, I found that this helped a lot as it gave me a very clear understanding of how my own music video will be edited. I also understand more about the importance of lip-syncing. The practice doing this before my music video will enable me to edit my own as well as I can and additionally benefit me when I'm filming.

A2 Music Video History

Music Video Definition

A music video is a short film integrating a song and imagery produced for promotional or artistic purposes- Wikapedia 2014

History

In 1894, sheet music publishers Edward B. Marks and Joe Stern hired electrician George Thomas and various performers to promote sales of their song "The Little Lost Child". Using a magic lantern, Thomas projected a series of still images on a screen simultaneous to live performances. This was the first step towards music videos.

Musicals were another important contribution to music videos, and several well-known music videos have imitated the style of classic Hollywood musicals from the 1930s to the 1950s. One of the best-known examples is Madonna's 1985 video for "Material Girl" which was based on Jack Cole's staging of "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" from the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes staring Marilyn Monroe. Several of Michael Jackson's videos also showed influence such as "Thriller" and "Bad" which was influenced by the stylised dance "fights" in the film version of West Side Story.
